A NEW approach in backlighting through its tremendously reduced pixel size. This improves the overall contrast ratio considerably and expands the dimming zone to eliminate the blooming effect.
What is Neo QLED?
- Neo QLED is also known as Mini LED. The branding "Neo" is referring to the new panel backlighting technology that Samsung is using to further improve picture quality in 2021.
- Conventional LEDs consist of bulky packaging to protect the LEDs and lenses to guide the light sources.
- Samsung’s new Neo QLED technology, however, removes both the packaging and lens, leaving only the LED chip.
- This enables the LEDs to be extremely small (microscopic, in fact), It is tremendously reduced to 1/40 smaller than a conventional LED pixel size.
- Samsung Neo QLED at the same time applies an ultra-thin micro-layer in this new panel design to accurately guide the tiny LEDs’ light to where it needs to go.
- The combination of Quantum mini LEDs and the micro-layer allows the Neo QLED TVs to deliver much more accurate light control, preventing light from leaking into areas of the picture where it isn’t supposed to be (minimize traditional LED blooming issues)
- A simple sentence to explain what is Neo QLED---"More tiny pixels to fill the same size of TV panel, more precise control of dimming with more zones". More zones mean more control over a small and specific area of the screen.
- This results in deeper black levels and brighter white highlights.

Quantum Matrix Technology
- Even though there are a much denser array of tiny LEDs, you also need to provide a powerful processor to drive all those tiny LEDs.
- This is where the Quantum Matrix technology comes in, promising to deliver precise dimming, enhanced local power distribution, and a new Black Detail Boost feature that uses multi-bit data to bring out more detail in dark areas.
- What you will get is the stunning picture quality without blooming. Blooming is basically when brighter areas bleed into darker ones, which can then lighten the black levels. This results a non pure black levels.
Neo Quantum Processor 4K
- A new Neo Quantum Processor, meanwhile, takes the Neural Network ‘learning’ technology first introduced in 2020 to a much higher level.
- This time it has enough power to make use of numerous deep learning modules to deliver what Samsung calls ‘Multi-Intelligence’.
- Last year all the sub 4K images passed through only a single neural network to help Samsung’s TVs improve their upscaling performance.
- For Neo QLED, any lower resolution files will be passed through a massive 16 neural networks, with the combined results being assessed by a new Neural Analyzer which will choose the best upscaling picture based on the different programs you are watching.

HDR 10+ Adaptive in all the Neo QLED
- All the Neo QLED is applying the upgraded HDR10+, known as HDR10+ Adaptive.
- Watching HDR content from Netflix is optimal in a darkened atmosphere. Your viewing environments may be different depending on room lighting, time of day, and proximity to windows.
- The HDR10+ Adaptive feature supports dynamic scene-by-scene optimization.
- Following the guidelines from the HDR10+ LLC, it can now adjust to any room lighting condition, further enhancing your HDR experience.
Quantum HDR 32x
- Different types of Neo QLED will render the bright and dark areas from a scene differently.
- In the words, the higher the numbering will let you see more hidden details in the brightest and darker scene. The numbering is basically the measurement in nits. A nit is the unit of measurement that describes how bright a television can display. The higher the number of nits, the brighter the display.
- This high-end QN90A is similar to the stalked down of Neo 8K which share the same HDR 32x.
- As compared to the stalked down Neo 4K QN85A which is at HDR 24x.
Ultra Viewing Angle vs Wide Viewing Angle
- The best view from any seat. See every detail at any angle. Consistent viewing picture quality, even when sitting off to the side.
- As compared with QN85A which is offering Wide Viewing Angle.
- This feature is not applicable for QN90A 50". Please take note.
